Saturday, September 12th, 2015, we had the honor of being a sponsor at the Closer to Free Ride for Smilow Cancer Hospital at Yale-New Haven!
This event brought together about 1700 riders and hundreds of volunteers. The day started with the inspirational Opening Ceremonies. Check out the video here! At the end of the Ceremonies, the riders headed off to the races!
The first riders hit the finish line around 9:30 am. So many incredible people stopped by our tent to learn more about Deep River Snacks, try our chips, enter our raffle, and even try their hand at potato sack decorating and racing! Excited family members waiting for their racers stopped by throughout the day to say hello, and hungry race participants filled their bellies with our snacks along the race course and at our tent afterwards.
Some of our staff even got in on the action!
The energy was incredible. Each rider had his or her own motivation for participating. Survivors proudly displayed their special “Survivor” shirts, and others dedicated their rides to loved ones lost to or fighting cancer. We were moved to tears by some of the stories we heard, while others left us laughing until we couldn’t breathe.
We had such a great time at the Closer to Free Ride! Were you there? We want to know all about your day!
You can see more photos from the day here.
