Questions about Deep River Snacks Products
Yes! All of our snacks are Kosher! Our snacks are certified Kosher using both the KOF-K and OU certification standards. Depending on the product and timing you may find either certification shown on the front panel of the bags. Rest assured, our snacks always have been and always will be certified Kosher using the highest standards!
The date printed on our packaging is our “Best By” date. This refers to the best quality date. Purchasing and eating the snacks prior to that date will ensure the wholesome, good quality that we require for all of our snacks. Retailers should not sell the product after that date, but if the date expires during home storage, the product is still safe to eat.
Sunflower oil has a clean taste and low levels of trans fat compared to other frying oils. Sunflower oil can be used in conditions with extremely high cooking temperatures and is proven to help food stay fresher and healthier for longer periods of time. Sunflower oil is also high in the essential vitamin E and low in saturated fat.
No. We would love to offer organic kettle chips, but unfortunately the availability of organic potatoes is too low for us to migrate our entire line to organic year round. We do continue to monitor this and hope that in the future we’ll be able to offer an organic line of potato chips! In the meantime, please give our organic Tortilla Chips a try! (They’re made from organic corn and sunflower oil, two ingredients with better organic availability.)
Yes, we admit this is confusing. The Reduced Fat Lightly Salted appears to have more sodium than Original because of a difference in the serving sizes between the two small bags. The Original Salted bag is 2oz, and contains two servings with 95g of sodium per each 1oz serving. The Reduced Fat is a 1.5oz single serving bag, with 105mg per 1.5oz serving. To compare apples to apples, 1oz of Reduced Fat Lightly Salted contains 70g of sodium, compared to 95mg in 1oz of Original Salted.
True, our math skills are not as great as our chip making skills! But in this case we didn’t make a mistake. This inconsistency is due to specific rounding rules put in place by the FDA.
For example: 1 oz serving = 146.9 calories which is rounded to 150 per FDA regulations
2 oz serving = 293.8 calories which is rounded to 290 per FDA regulations
Yes! Many of our products are vegan. An easy way to tell is by looking at the Kosher symbol on the front of the package – an or the word “PARVE” as part of the
symbol indicates that the product does not contain meat or dairy ingredients (or their derivatives).

Our HONCHOS™ Peach Habanero and Ranch* Organic Tortilla Chips are also vegan.
*Current recipe is vegan, but prior recipe did use milk ingredients. Please refer to specific package information to confirm prior to purchase.
Please note that any sugar used across our entire product line is vegan, and not processed with bone char.
We are committed to only making snacks that are “certified” gluten-free. We’ve always produced gluten-free snacks, but we went through the certification process to ensure that our kettle chips, tortilla chips, and organic popcorn meet the government standards of being gluten free. Not only did we meet the standards, but we exceeded them, so all of our snack products contain no more than 10 parts per million of gluten. This means that even people with very sensitive gluten intolerance can enjoy our snacks.
We use non-GMO ingredients whenever possible. You can be assured that our potatoes, corn, and sunflower oil are always non-GMO. Many of our seasonings are also non-GMO.

Yes, we have expanded our snack distribution to Canada. The following kettle chip flavors – Original Salted, Mesquite BBQ, Sweet Maui Onion, Rosemary & Olive Oil and Sea Salt & Vinegar Kettle Chips – are available in bilingual packaging and can be found in many stores in British Columbia. Deep River Snacks is in the process of increasing our distribution to Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec.

Deep River Snacks fundamentally believes in giving back to the organizations that have personally affected Deep River Snacks’ employees. “We Give a Chip” is integral to the Deep River Snacks brand and we are proud to make donations to a number of charities every year.
Deep River Snacks donates to organizations that have personally affected the lives of Deep River Snacks employees. Each year, we commit to making a donation to each of the charities featured on Deep River Snacks’ bags. We also give money to other charities that are not featured on our bags, if they support causes important to our employees.
Deep River Snacks strives to maximize the impact of its charitable donations. To that end, Deep River Snacks annually determines how to apportion its charitable giving among the various charities it supports. This decision is based on which charities address causes that have impacted Deep River Snacks’ employees the most, with an incremental preference given to charities working to find a cure for diseases like cancer and other disorders affecting the Deep River Snacks family.

From time to time, we do change the charities that we feature on the back of one of our flavors. It may take several weeks for the change to reach stores, depending on the amount of packaging materials (bags) we have in our production facility at the time the change is made. During this transition period you may find both the old and new charities shown on fresh bags in your local store.
Our bags feature charities that have touched the lives of Deep River Snacks employees. We have a personal connection to each charity we feature, which is what makes it so special! Our team does review our charities from time to time, and occasionally we do update our packaging, or add new organizations as we launch new snacks.
While that personal, employee connection is what drives our decision making, we’re always happy to hear what our fans ‘give a chip’ about. Please feel free to send us a note at customerservice@deepriversnacks.com to tell us about a charity that you’re passionate about.

FAQs about HONCHOS
Right now, the scarcity and cost of organic cheese is prohibitive so we use natural, real, conventional cheese. As organic cheese becomes more widely available, we hope to convert to a 100% organic version. HONCHOS Peach Habanero and Ranch are 100% USDA Certified Organic.
**UPDATE: we’ve been able to find a solution that has allowed us to make HONCHOS Nacho Cheese fully, 100% Organic! New, fully organic bags began shipping in June 2017, and feature a green and white organic seal on the front.
Many people report negative reactions to artificial colors and flavors, like hyperactivity in children, migraines, and even anxiety.
The Center for Science in the Public Interest estimates that more than half a million children in the United States suffer adverse behavioral reactions after ingesting food dyes, and in a letter submitted in March, urges the FDA to require a warning label on foods that contain synthetic dyes. Other countries have already taken action against these artificial ingredients: Red Dye 40 is “not recommended for children” in the UK, Yellow Dye 6 is banned in Norway and Finland, Yellow Dye 5 is banned in Norway and Austria.
